HappyConsumer has come full circle. This blog started out life on the WordPress platform. It spent some time on the quite nice (but not quite what I want now) Tumblr. Last week, I tried moving to Chyrp, but it’s really not ready for prime time. As of today, we’re back to WordPress (using the new version 2.5) and, I have to say, it’s nice to be back.

I have big plans for the site. I’m going to be taking it beyond the link and photo extravaganza that it’s been the past year or so. I hope to include some longer posts, some interviews with interesting food people, some original video content (!), and more. (I say “hope” because I really don’t have much time for any of this, so we’ll see what happens over time.)

If you read back through the old posts, you’ll likely notice that things are kind of broken when it comes to links out to other sites. I’m going to be cleaning those up over time. The design (such as it is) will also be changing over time. In the meantime, let’s just focus on the here and now.

If you come across any major problems, please let me know. Otherwise, let’s get back to the food.

I recently read this excellent <a href="http://www.findyourcraving.com/indulging/blogs/overview.html"target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.findyourcraving.com');">roundup of food blogs on Cravings. Included are a few I read somewhat regularly, one I read regularly (<a href="http://www.thefoodsection.com"target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.thefoodsection.com');">The Food Section), and a bunch I’d never heard of before. Nine are listed in total. Of course, this is just a drop in the bucket in the <a href="http://www.technorati.com/discover/life/food"target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.technorati.com');">world of <a href="http://del.icio.us/tag/foodblog?setcount=100"target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/del.icio.us');">food blogs. I keep about 10 such blogs in my RSS feed and add new ones frequently (and try to remove those that just aren’t up to quality).

All of this begs the question, why am I starting a food blog. The answer, for now, is that I’m not sure. I like to say that this is really just for me. I’m not sure that’s really true, though. After all, why post it out there for the world if it’s just for me. I spend a lot of time reading about food, eating food, talking about food, and making food. Why not extend that interest a little and start sharing my interest in food?

I’m actually not sure yet what I what HappyConsumer to be. I know I’m not really interested in documenting all of my restaurant meals with vivid photos. Or documenting every meal I cook. I’ll probably post a bunch of links to things I find interesting. From time to time, I’ll post a longer item. I hope to put up a bunch of pictures (courtesy of Kari). I’ll probably talk about well-raised, grass-fed this and that. And, eventually, I think, HappyConsumer will find a voice.
